This original three-movement work for marching band embodies the spirit of the Mayan civilization. Part 1 begins with a flute melody that builds into the main band theme. A jungle-like interlude leads into a mysterious percussive drive that makes the listener visual the rain forest. In Part 2, the flute soloist leads the band into a festive dance in 12/8 time. Part 3 finishes the show with dark harmonies that eventually end with the flute soloist, vanishing into the softening percussion textures.
